For studies based on academic aptitude students may opt for engineering, medicine, finance or administration. Those who do not have the capability and aptitude will discontinue studies at the graduate level or below and may go into family business or small jobs or be self-employed. Students having a good academic performance, aptitude and capability may plan their careers in line with corporate sectors and accordingly finish studies with post-graduation. If one wants to go purely in to academic then he may go for a doctorate degree also. A few may pursue courses like animation, short term computer courses and courses like Nursing, Education etc.
After you finish your studies, and school and college is way behind you, you realize that there is far more to life and success than just grades. And in all sizes of companies, whether it is a corporation of 50,000 employees to a business of your own which you run from your house. And these rules apply beyond the corporate world also, to professionals like doctors, lawyers and self employed entrepreneurs.
And what are the six principles?
- Be on time – be punctual by sensibly scheduling appointments. It’s the little things that add up. Show respect for other people’s time and their own pre-occupations.
- Be discreet – So that you are sensitive to the impact that information might have on those working with it, as well as what the competitors might do if they find out.
- Be courteous, pleasant and positive – and this is irrespective of the pressures on you or your company. Spread joy and cheer to lighten up the environment.
- Be concerned about others, not just your self – people’s careers ended, stalled or reversed because they lacked that concern for others.
- Dress appropriately – First impressions are first impressions. You only make one. It is good to look, listen and pick a role model. This always helps.
- Use proper written and spoken language – because people who can express themselves clearly are always at a definite advantage.
If one inculcates these rules in behavior even before entering the, work force – it will be a great lead over the others in the race.
When you interact with people from a different culture at a professional level, you need to strike a balance by understanding their mindset and outlook towards different behavioral patterns. However having said this, we cannot overlook the fact that even while dealing with clients within the same culture, you need to follow a protocol to maintain a positive image of yourself as an individual as well as your organization at the macro level.
