PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS- THE QUALITY CONTROL STORY
What we need is a process of problem solving that is sound and which is relatively simple to understand. In the documentation, we also need a process that is foolproof.
No company claiming to implement TQC in Japan can claim not to implement the QC story. The QC story must be understood which is fundamental to the problem solving discipline.
A Guru was holding class for a group of young disciples when they begged him to reveal to them the sacred mantra by which the dead are restored to life. â€œWhat would you do with a dangerous thing like that?â€™â€™ the guru asked. â€œNothing It would just serve to strengthen our faith,â€™â€™ they replied.
â€œPremature knowledge is a dangerous thing, my children,â€™ the old man said. â€œWhen is knowledge premature?â€? they demanded. â€œWhen it gives power to someone who does not as yet has the wisdom that must go with its use.â€?
The disciples persisted, however, so the holy man in spite of himself, whispered the Sacred Mantra into their ears and instructed them repeatedly to use it with the greatest care.
Not long afterwards the young man was walking along a desert place where they saw a heap of bleached bones. In the spirit of frivolity that generally accompanies a crowd they decided to test the Mantra that should only have been used after prolonged meditation.
No sooner had they uttered the magic words than the bones gained flesh and were transformed into ravenous wolves that chased them and tore them to shreds.
It is important to see TQM as a comprehensive knowledge system, to ensure that its application yields results. The Japanese use the word â€˜strictlyâ€™ to underline commitment.
TQM is now practiced all over the world by progressive organizations.
Irreversible total quality control:
What is fascinating about this mind se is that when it is applied in the documentation of the problem solved, it makes the problem solving process foolproof.
The Total Quality control requires certain quality control tools which are not described in this article. The implementations of QC tools must be systematically documented by the organization. This ensures fool proof method and maintaining quality standards.
Following the QC story process the real story comes out. This allows the problem solvers to find mistakes by themselves, Problem solving can never be complete, to achieve break through improvements, without going through proper process of Quality control.
Every individual in the company where TQM implementation is going on, must understand and respect this process and no deviations are allowed in the documentation.
Once the quality control process formulated by the organization appointed experts is followed then, the savings achieved in improvements must be documented as per the standardized procedures.
The learning of the QC process has to be passed on to every one in the organization, along with the tools for problem solving. Learning and problem solving go hand in hand it themselves.
Total Quality Control can be achieved by proper methodology and the initially start up for fully implementing TQM may take few months for any company to claim to be a TQM company. Thereafter, the standardized procedures may have to be followed by all concerned to retain the progress achieved.
