BREAK FROM WORK IS ESSENTIAL
Let us first understand how one can take a break from work particularly if one is employed. We are giving below various modes of official leaves which an employee is entitled to officially.
First a privilege leave or PL is usually a long leave allotted to an employee. It could range anything between 15 days to a month. An employee may use annual leave for vacations, rest and relaxation, or emergencies. He /she has the right to take annual leave, subject to the right of the supervisor to schedule the time at which annual leave may be taken.
For Employers, there are at least three possible consequences of accepting employees’ apparently generous sacrifices. According to a study, those who don’t use their privileged leave are far more likely to report feeling overworked. And those suffering from overwork are more likely to:
· Report having made mistakes at work.
· Be job-hunting.
· Suffer from all kinds of health problems including lack of sleep, high levels of stress, and neglecting their own well-being
In another study, 29% of respondents felt they were often too busy to step back and reflect on their work. As an entrepreneur, you should encourage the type innovative that comes from the relaxed and clearheaded. So why not find ways to encourage your employees to take those two weeks in the sun?
The human body is comparable to a vehicle which loses its effectiveness on account of overuse. Working overtime and on holidays, in turn leads to lower worker morale. It’s a loss both to the employees and the organization. The employee cannot deliver and the organization does not benefit by way of optimum productivity. Thus, a break is a boon, an opportunity to re-invent oneself.
Employees usually lug their baggage to retreats, or head towards their native places to celebrate their holidays. There is nothing in the world comparable to the place where we learnt our graving skills our native village.
The holistic perception of a retreat includes the mental, spiritual and emotional facets of life. Its literal meaning is withdrawal, a period when the mind slows down and turns within. A sense of disquiet envelops them, gradually easing out the modern malaise of success-and-nothing.
What happens during a retreat? Some prefer ‘Vipassana’ a Buddhist traditional which demands complete silence. It helps the participant to concentrate on his thoughts and breathe.
Then there are the popular destination in Kerala, India where people enjoy the therapeutic massages and treatments with herbal potions and diet. What is described here is the totally non-denominational retreat that reinvigorates both the mind and body. Even two full days can be balm.
When we begin to appreciate the limitations of thoughts, then the word “stress will acquire a very different meaning. Stress will then be revealed as nothing but mind-induced and therefore its ‘management’ can only succeed when we take a pause.
The person who takes time off returns to work not only refreshed but with a new perspective with a great idea of how to penetrate new markets or stream line an office task may have been born on a beach, not in an office cubicle. If you have privileged leave in your account, use it. Recharge your batteries. You will find a noticeable difference both in your work and exchange with others.
