The employer must plan the removal of monotony from employees work and their after office hour life. The employer is powerful and capable enough financially and otherwise to provide work life motivational factor to the employees.

Work life balance is an efficient tool by which every employee is given an opportunity to choose time out during work hours. This can be followed on a daily/ weekly basis depending on the nature of the business. An employee can take 30-45 minutes of time out to read, listen to music, play an indoor game, take a nap, exercise practice yoga, watch a movie etc. But at the same time the employee must be within the company premises at a dedicated space allocated to pursue such activities.

Several work life balance policies look good on paper, but if not executed, will not serve any purpose

Child care:

It’s necessary to develop a children’s programme for working mothers/ fathers wherein companies need to invest in a separate space where a working parent can spend time with their kid /kids during work hours. A progressive firm needs to make arrangements w.r.t school pick up / drop and other basic amenities in the form of indoor games,  stationary, food etc.

We are all aware that the current generation is highly networked and uses technology seamlessly. What is likely to happen in a decade from now is that the concept of physical office space will undergo change and employees will be working out of their preferred locations/ time zones. I guess it would be normal to experience employees on vacation and work at the same time.

The offices are likely to provide much more than just a cubicle. You will find the office space designed to take care of employees needs beyond work. There would be facilities that will encourage employees to stay fit, help in grocery shopping, pursue their hobbies etc.

Creating a trading place where employees can opt to pursue something that they aspire to pursue will foster positive results

A futuristic approach, but inventing a tool  that will allow people to project their 3D images to a virtual workplace will help to achieve a team environment irrespective of their location.

A startling majority percentage of recruiters say that candidates turn down job offers from employers that aren’t work life balance friendly.

According to a work life balance survey by, the executive career management service of the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC) 80 per cent of executives say that work life balance as a parameter plays a vital role during the job search process. Work life balance today directly impacts the retention of top executive talent. An unhealthy work life balance leads to increased stress, strain on personnel relationships and a lack of personal fulfillment. All of these factors will push the executives towards greener pastures.

Work life balance today is a fundamental hygiene factor that employees seek. Other aspects like compensation and perks are of a transactional nature. Employees see work life balance as a relational benefit. The degree at which work life balance influences the decision of a job seeker is closely linked to one’s age and the nature of the role the employee has chosen to perform. It is observed that employees aged below 30 years are the ones that seek options like work from home, flexi timings etc. They realize that compensation alone does not lead to satisfaction. Today there are many who would gladly give up pay raises and advancement for being able to spend quality time with their families / friends. According to the AESC survey, two thirds of companies are developing programmes to help top candidates boost their family time without sacrificing their careers. The objective is to think about what is really important for employees and demonstrate our care for them throughout work life effectiveness offering. At the hiring stage prospective employees enquire about work life centric policies. Candidates have enquired if we have part time option and flexible timings, majority candidates check on this  home connectivity and financial assistance.

For organization fighting it out in this competitive market to hire and retain the best work life balance is certainly turning out to be the trump card.  The employer can list out at the recruiting stage to prospective employees the facilities they are providing beyond work.
