Work experience adds value to qualification

An individual’s college degree may not be as important as the experience he gains on the job. However, executives with the ambition to scale greater heights aren’t averse to heading back to B-school to learn a few new tricks.

Corporate exposure gives MBA aspirants an added asset and a lot of practical knowledge. Grasping and understanding case studies and business jargon is a lot easier for those with some amount of professional experience. Top management colleges say that getting an MBA is one of the best career and educational moves a professional can make.

In most cases, students take up a job after completion of their graduation. Within a year or two, many of them feel the need for a formal management education to complement the daily business decisions. Being from a specific area of education, students fail to look at business situations and the subsequent decisions from different perspectives. This is when they actually tend to look at a full time degree in MBA.

Getting a degree adds to the academic caliber of the student. Development and research also adds. A few years in the job graduates start to realize that to graduate from a job to career they may need a professional degree which then leads them towards pursuing an MBA program. A strong preference is seen towards the full time MBA program, mainly because of the cross-learning from the diversity in the class, teamwork live projects, global exposure, and a strong alumni connection, MBAs with work experience are extremely sought after by employers so one need not worry about hunting high and low for a job.

Students with previous work experience add value to the class learning with their experience and are able to relate to concepts better and can understand the practical difficulties and realities in application of these concepts back into business explains. So, if one thinks that education was of no help back then and will be of no help now, think again! Organizations prefer hiring employee who have gone out of their way to learn and who have taken on a challenge by leaving their comfort zone to broaden their perspective.

Career development is essential to implement career plan. Career development consists of personal improvements undertaken by the individual employee, training, development and educational programs provided by the organization and various institutes. The most important aspect of career development is that every employee must accept his/her responsibility for development. Various career development actions prove useful if an employee is committed to career development.

Employee’s desire for career progress should expose their skills, knowledge, qualifications, achievements, performance etc. to those who take the decision about career progress.
