HRM in Developed Countries

HR Management is responsible for the selection, training, performance assessment and performance linked rewards. Besides these the HR Management also actively develop program in strengthening organizational culture and also in tune with the labor law and wage laws. HRM also play role of liaison with worker union and management and initiate process of collective bargaining on working conditions and disciplinary issues.

Human Resource Management has taken extraordinary change in tune with the quality of life of people in the society. There has been tremendous economic growth in developed countries in last century.  In light of new inventions and use of new technology, there have been unprecedented growth in quality and quantity in manufacturing as well as agriculture. This gave edge to developed countries to produce and sell all over the world. Developed countries were flag careers in making desirable reforms. Although technology played important role but human involvement could not be ignored. There was increase in demand of technology experts like engineers, technicians in manufacturing, expert in the field of finance, marketing, people engaged in procurement of resources. Besides them, experts in logistics / distribution were required. After role of computer was increased, more professionals with expertise of software and hardware were inducted. More and more technically sound people inducted and this gave growth and boost to economy. The awareness among workers towards their working conditions increased. These lead to formation of union and association. There has been improvement in quality of life among different communities. The employee’s expectations from employer increased many folds. There have been continuous deliberations among management and union. This opened up a new chapter in H R Management. This was felt and new heads besides wages were added.

The HR Management in developed countries is extremely conscious about needs of employees as an important resource because organizations operate with help of different category of employees, from grass-root level worker to higher management level. They identify the need of skills and knowledge needed for specific job responsibility. The HRM keeps in mind their different training needs and elevation prospects. There is planning for succession process in senior management, the major responsibility rests on HR Management.

In light of new trends, acquisition and merger of corporate and focused approach in one field. The creation of joint forum of organization, gives a platform to discuss common issues concerning to specific industry. There are regular meetings of these forums, and it is represented by either CEO or HRM Head. The forum remains in constant touch with the government, political leaders and regulatory authorities and influence them for favorable policies for smooth functioning of organizations. This is an ongoing process as to run an industry various resources are required including human as a resource.

The globalization impacted organizations on different aspects of HR Management. The large companies have a large set up of HR team, and comprise of professionals who play different roles. Their functions are decided as there are various branches of specialization within HR Management.

HR emerged from human relation movement in early twentieth century. The focus was on economic efficiency and workforce productivity, which exists even now. There was transformation in employer-employee relations. In the latter part of twentieth century, workforce management expanded its influence within organization. Earlier Personnel administration term was being used for HR Management.

While approaching to the next century, communication system was taking a leaping growth. The corporate gradually started recognizing workforce as an asset. The term “Human Capital Management” is also being used as HR Management. There has been tremendous change in management. They started listening and responding to employees and changes were visible and felt.

HR Management has greater role to play in giving sound culture and leadership to the organization. HR Management plays greater role in enhancing business, cost effective operation and reduce any risk, which is very important and issues need to be tackled with sense of urgency.

There is increased demand of HR Managers in all industries. The subject has become so much elaborate that they are distributed in its branches. The organizations need very effective HR Managers for smooth functioning of the organization. The HR Department is extremely important and they are at par with finance which deals with capital and HR Management with Human Capital.
