An effective induction program

At NIIT: An induction program with the same objective but one that takes a different route NIIT utilizes technology to enable new members of the NIIT family to get acquainted with the organization. Being a technology friend company they have managed to create a unique induction program that addresses new entrants located at different locations simultaneously. It starts with a four day face-to-face exhaustive induction programs at NIIT SEED (School for employee Education and development) located at New Delhi. During this session new entrants at NIIT are taken through the company’s vision growth over the last 27 years, business verticals products and services systems and processes etc., by senior management of the company. Last year NIIT created a breakthrough in the way induction is done when it conducted a NIIT induction program (NIP) session through its innovative Synchronous Learning Technology platform which is otherwise used by the country’s premier B-schools such as the IIM to offer executive management programs to working professionals across over 20 locations in the country. During this first of its kind induction session 114 new NIITians from cities attended their 1st day of NIP on the Synchronous Learning platform of the NIIT Imperia.

The NIIT’s e-induction or e-NIP program is a comprehensive user-friendly web based training solution that offers basic information about the company that new hires need to know on the first day of their work. The idea is to send a standard consistent message for all new hires irrespective of their business vertical and location. Another unique aspect of NIIT’s induction programs is called immersion which is specially designed for inducting senior members into the NIIT leadership team. During this full day session the new members get into conference room with a group of NIITians who they may be working with closely in the organization. It is a good get-to-know ice breaking session for both the new employee and the current employee.

A thorough induction process ensures that new managers get a good understanding of the organization not only in terms of products and processes but also, much importantly, its unique culture. They value the importance of building and nurturing talent from within. The Management Trainee (MT) program, for example aims at developing leaders for India and its global operations.

The Indian Management trainees Program is a core program of the company and gets ample visibility amongst the Reckitt Benckiser global top management as well. Their management training approach is about creating a program where people are supported to unleash their potential early in their careers; it’s a place and a program were you can make things happen not just learn about how others make things happen.. The Management Trainees induction is a one year intensive cross-functional program. For example the programs for sales and marketing trainees starts with a week long induction at the corporate head office, with introduction by the management committee. This is followed by presentations by various HODs (Head of departments) who give the trainees an overview of the various functions. Post that, the trainees head off to the Market, to understand Reckitt Benckiser products. These let them interface with products and consumers in real-life setting. They are put through a series of stints in sales that provide them exposure to diverse elements.

An effective induction program today is more than merely introducing new employees to their roles and co-workers. And several organizations that understand that are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that their new family members get a warm welcome.
